Health Policy Leadership Needs and Impact
Overview
This study proposes to understand, share, and implement effective strategies and techniques for training leaders, from a cross section of the community with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and positions, in health policy to address the elimination of health disparities and achieve health equity. In order to develop, implement, and change health policy to address disparities in health, leaders need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experiences.
Specific Aims
Currently, health policy leadership training opportunities focused on the elimination of health disparities are limited and the impact of such training programs on health policies and health disparities is unknown. This project is designed to help gain a greater understanding of the role health policy leadership programs play in the quest to eliminate health disparities. Our specific aims are:
- To identify health policy leaders’ training needs for developing, implementing, and changing policies that reduce disparities and advance health equity;
- To develop a range of health policy leadership training programs (in the Health Policy Center) at SHLI/MSM to meet the needs of health professionals, community leaders, and students;
- To evaluate the impact of SHLI health policy training programs in developing health leaders prepared to promote and implement policies to reduce disparities and advance health equity.
